The Ashram offers accommodation in a few guest houses situated within a mile of the main Ashram building. These are meant for visitors to the Sri Aurobindo Ashram and not for the casual tourist looking for inexpensive accommodation in Pondicherry.
The guest houses are not commercial hotels: there are no phones, TVs, or WiFi connections in the rooms, nor is there any provision for room service. Most close their gates at 10.30 p.m. and guests are expected to return by that time. There are also strict rules regarding cleanliness and conduct.
All visitors from abroad must be registered with the Indian Government's Foreigners' Registration Office (FRO). Only three guest houses mentioned below have the necessary authorization to do this registration.
